belly button piercing with keloid

keloid ( plural keloids ) is a condition in which the skin forms excessive connective tissue in response to skin injury or trauma , which is usually due to skin piercing , piercing of the navel (navel) piercing , or ear piercing , even multiple piercings . This can result in a raised scar that is hard and rubbery and appears shiny and smooth , and it can be red , pink , or purplish-red in color .

The formation of keloid scars is believed to relate to the excessive production of collagen during the healing process . This overproduction of collagen can cause the scar tissue to grow excessively outside the initial site of injury , forming keloid scars that may spread beyond the initial site of healing (ie the site of the initial injury or pierce ) and can have a varied appearance in different individuals .

Keloidscarscan vary widely in appearance and size , and the best way to treat them is still not fully understood . there are many potential treatment options , some of which may not be feasible for everyone and may need to be adjusted accordingly to individual needs and characteristics .
