Mary Sauer is a prominent contemporary artist known for her innovative approach to figure painting, deeply influenced by the art movements of the 19th century and the contemporary Realist style. Born in 1986 in Greenville, Kentucky, Mary began her artistic journey at Brigham Young University, where she received a BFA in Illustration in 2009. She continued her studies at The Art Students League of New York and The Grand Central Academy of Art before pursuing her Master of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing at the University of Utah.

Mary's artistic practice is marked by a distinctive style that blends the traditional techniques of the 19th century with more modern conceptual ideas, particularly regarding the way individuals perceive themselves to the world around them. Her approach has been recognized with several awards and fellowships, including the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant for traditional figure painting in 2014.

One of Mary's most notable accomplishments is the cover of American Art Collector Magazine in 2017 and her feature in the "21 Under 31" feature in Southwest Art Magazine. Her painting 'Anna' was awarded Best in Show at the 2012 Portrait Society of America International Portrait Competition, and she also received the Artist Magazine's_full page ad in 2012.

Mary has served as an adjunct faculty member at Brigham Young University and has taught advanced life drawing at the University of Utah. Her work is held in numerous permanent collections, including those of the Springville Museum of Art and The Church of Jesus Christ of Later day Saints. Mary is currently represented by Meyer Gallery in Park City, UT, and Sloane Merrill Gallery in Boston, MA.

Throughout her career, Mary has shown a keen interest in supporting the next generation of artists. As a seed-stage investor and supporter of entrepreneurial activity at universities, she has judged business plans and advised startups at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School and Harvard Business School.
