Mean Girls (2024

Parent Review

After recently watching the latest movie adaptation of "Mean Girls," I found myself reflecting on the original 2004 film and its impact on audiences. This timely musical adaptation brought a fresh perspective to the classic story, capturing the essence of Mean Girls while adding some modern twists.

In this version of "Mean Girls," we follow the journey of Cady Heron, a long-term virtual homeschooler from the African savanna, as she navigates the tricky waters of high school social dynamics. Her ultimate aim is to find her place among the popular clique known as The Plastics. However, her attempt to join this group soon exposes her to the cunning and manipulation that defines the school's Elite.

Overall, the movie does an excellent job of capturing the essence of the original, while also introducing new elements such as musical numbers and an expanded supporting cast. The direction, performances, and soundtrack are all top-notch, making "Mean Girls (2024)" a must-watch for fans of the series.

However, there were a few aspects of the film that left me wanting more. First and foremost, the character development could have been stronger. While most of the original characters are present, their growth and arc felt somewhat lacking in this adaptation. Additionally, the script could have benefited from more emphasis on themes like friendship, self-discovery, and the dangers of fitting in.

Despite some minor issues, "Mean Girls (2024)" is a success in its own right. It's a well-crafted musical that will resonate with both parents and their tweens. The story is engaging, the characters relatable, and the music is catchy. If you're looking for a movie that tackles some heavier topics like sexuality and peer pressure, however, you might want to pass on this one., "Mean Girls (2024)" is a fun, if somewhat uneven, musical adaptation of the original Mean Girls story. While it's not perfect, it's definitely worth a watch for those looking to experience some heartwarming tunes and a taste of high school life.

Please note that my review is based on a screening of the movie and may not reflect the final rating or content in subsequent home release versions.
