Peyronie’s Disease Visualizations

Peyronie's disease, also known as fibrous induration, is a condition that affects the penis, causing localized fibrosis resulting in penile induration and pain during intercourse. The condition can progress to calcification and plaque formation, leading to penile curvature and potentially erectile功能障碍. This condition is relatively uncommon and may affect men of various ages, though it typically manifests in middle age or later life.

Symptoms
Symptoms of Peyronie's disease vary depending on the severity and duration of the condition. Common symptoms include:

  • Penile induration and curvature during flaccid状态
  • Penile rigidity or firmness during erectile function
  • Pain or discomfort during sexual intercourse
  • Change in the shape or size of the penis
  • Difficulty maintaining an erection
Symptoms may range from mild to severe, with some patients experiencing significant disruption in their daily lives due to the condition.

Diagnosis
Diagnosis of Peyronie's disease typically involves a combination of physical examination, patient history, and imaging studies. Physical examination may reveal penile abnormalities or tenderness overlying the tunica albuginea, the connective tissue sheath of the penis that prevents the vessels from penetrating the corpus cavernosum. A complete medical history is essential for understanding the natural history of the disease and for planning management. Imaging studies, such as ultrasonography or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), may help to identify the characteristic plaque formation that can be visualized in Peyronie's disease.

Management
Treatment of Peyronie's disease focuses on managing symptoms and preventing progression of the condition. Treatment options may include:

  • Oral medication, such as Potaba, an anti-fibrotic agent
  • Injections of medication directly into the penis, such as intralesional steroid injections or collagenase clostridiale
  • Surgery, which may include shortening procedures, lengthening procedures, or a penile prosthesis植入
  • Vacuum therapy or traction devices may be used to aid in penile straightening
Initial treatment should be tailored to the severity of the condition and may include lifestyle changes, medication, or interventional procedures to correct penile malformations. Follow-up is essential to monitor for relapses or complications.
