Specifically, if the head is positioned in front of, above, or to the side of the torso, it can cause stress on the costal cartilages- the cartilages that connect the ribs to the sternum. If these cartilages are subjected to abnormal stress due to poor posture, they can develop inflamation, resulting in costochondritis.

Moreover, if the head is positioned in front of the torso for extended periods, it can put tension on the neck muscles, which can, in turn, strain the costocondrals, leading to chest pain.

Additionally, poor posture can affect breathing, particularly if the diaphragm, which is responsible for the expansion of the lungs, is compressed due to the poor posture of the torso. This compression can limit its ability to expand and contribute to tightness in the chest, leading to chest pain.
