how to reset ozempic pen

Ozempic Pen Reset Instructions

If your Ozempic pen is displaying a message indicating it needs to be reset, follow these steps to safely perform the reset process:

  1. Remove the needle
  • Gently pull the needle out of the skin where it is inserted.

  • Do not touch the hub of the needle with the pen; this can cause damage.

  1. Remove the cap
  • Remove the cap from the end of the pen that does not contain the needle.
  1. Check the fluid
  • Check the clear fluid reservoir to confirm if it is empty or nearly empty.

  • Look for a clear line or symbol that indicates the fluid level.

  • If it is nearly empty, proceed to step 4.

  1. Dose counter
  • If the Ozempic pen is out of fluid, meaning the fluid level is at zero, you will typically hear a click sound.

  • This indicates that the pen is ready to be reset. Do not attempt a dose at this point.

  1. Wait 2-3 minutes
  • Allow the pen to sit without moving for at least 2-3 minutes. Doing so allows space for the fluid to return to the reservoir.
  1. Reproduce dose sequence
  • While holding the pen at a 90-degree angle to the needle, turn the dose selector to zero by rotating all the way clockwise.

  • Click the dial fully to the zero position if it doesn't do so automatically.

  • Repeat the turning process twice more to ensure the selected dose pointer is at zero.

  1. Verify dose pointer
  • Check the Ozempic pen dose pointer to ensure it is aligned with the zero dose position.

  • If it is not, rotate the needle fully to the select appropriate dose again.

  1. Draw and deliver dose
  • With the needle in the skin, press and hold down the dose button until the dose counter shows zero.

  • Follow with 6 seconds of counting before slowly removing the needle and discarding the needle in a sharps container.

  1. Replace cap
  • Once the needle is removed, replace the cap on the end of the pen that was removed earlier.

Remember to clean your hands and the pen after the reset. It's also a wise idea to document the reset in your patient's chart to ensure accountability and proper documentation.
