Stack Cup Drinking Game: Rules, Strategy, and Fun for Parties

Stack Cup, also known as "Rage Cage" or "Boom Cup," is a popular drinking game that combines skill, speed, and friendly competition. Perfect for parties and gatherings, this game is easy to learn, fast-paced, and guarantees a lively time. Whether you're a seasoned player or new to the game, understanding the rules, strategy, and variations will enhance your Stack Cup experience.

Game Setup

Before diving into the game, gather the necessary materials: a round table, at least 20 to 30 Solo plastic cups, your preferred drink (usually beer, but any beverage will do), and two ping pong balls. Arrange the cups in a circle on the table, with each cup filled 1/4th with your chosen drink. In the center, place a "King's Cup" filled to the brim. Give an empty cup and a ping pong ball to each player facing their opponent.

How to Play

  1. Bouncing the Ball: Players start by bouncing their ping pong ball onto the table, aiming for the cups in front of them.

  2. Passing the Cup: If a player lands the ball on their first try, they can pass the cup and ball to any player except the opposing player who is also bouncing. If it takes more than one attempt, the cup can only be passed to the person on their left.

  3. Stacking: If a player successfully bounces their ball while the player on their left has an empty cup, they can stack their cup on top of the losing player's cup. The losing player must then drink the contents of the table, chug it, and attempt to bounce their ball again.

  4. Avoiding the Center Cup: As cups are emptied and stacked, the King's Cup remains in the center. The last player to have their cup stacked must drink the King's Cup.

Game Rules

  • No blowing the ball into a cup is allowed.
  • Players must shoot with one hand, and for added difficulty, consider using only your non-dominant hand.
  • Accidental spills require drinking the cup and refilling it.
  • If a ball goes off the table, the player must drink and refill a cup before resuming play.
  • For an extra challenge, play with liquor instead of beer.

Stack Cup Variations

  1. Team Play: Divide players into teams, creating a more collaborative and competitive environment.
  2. Penalty Shots: Miss a shot? Drink a penalty shot before attempting again.
  3. Winner Drinks: Instead of the losing team drinking the King's Cup, the winning team earns the reward.

Gameplay Tips

  • Practice your two-handed technique to improve efficiency, with one hand bouncing and the other preparing for stacking.
  • Learn the art of the underhand serve with backspin for more control and accuracy.
  • Observe your opponents' performance and exploit their weaknesses.
  • Tilt your cup slightly back to create a mini-ramp for better bounces.

Equipment and Party Planning

  • Choose a spacious area for the game, and consider using a tablecloth to protect the table.
  • Invest in quality ping pong balls for consistent bounces.
  • Consider using non-alcoholic beverages for a sober game or for those who prefer not to drink.
  • Dim lighting and music can enhance the party atmosphere.

Stack Cup is a versatile game that adapts to various numbers of players and preferences. With its simple rules and endless possibilities for house rules, it's no wonder this drinking game has stood the test of time. So, gather your friends, set up the cups, and get ready for a fun, engaging, and memorable evening! Remember to drink responsibly and enjoy the game responsibly. Cheers! 🍻
