How to Obtain a Restricted License in Kansas
To obtain a restricted license in Kansas, an individual must submit a written application to the division of vehicles. The application must be submitted by the person's parent or guardian and must include a signed affidavit stating that the applicant has completed the required driving hours and 25 hours of additional adult-supervised driving. Additionally, at least 10 of the 50 hours required by this subsection must be at night.
What Are the Restrictions on a Restricted License in Kansas?
The restrictions on a restricted license in Kansas depend on the age of the licensee. A restricted class C license issued under this section entitles the licensee, while possessing the license, to operate any motor vehicle in class C, as designated in K.S.A. 8-234b, and amendments thereto. For a period of six months after the issuance of a restricted license under subsection (a), a restricted license issued under subsection (a) shall entitle a licensee who is at least 16 years of age to operate the appropriate motor vehicles at any time without any of the restrictions required by this section.
After such six-month period, if the licensee has complied with the provisions of this section, such restricted license shall entitle the licensee to operate the appropriate motor vehicles at any time without any of the restrictions required by this section.
Violations and Suspensions
Any violation of the restrictions contained on a restricted license may result in the suspension of the license. The division shall suspend the restricted driver's license upon receiving satisfactory evidence that the licensee has been involved in two or more accidents chargeable to the licensee.
In addition to other penalties, any licensee who is less than 16 years of age who operates a motor vehicle with nonsibling minor passengers may be cited for a minor traffic violation.
