I Quit Drinking and Now I Hate My Husband

After a lifetime of excessive alcohol consumption, I made the difficult decision to quit drinking. While I initially thought the process would be smooth sailing, I soon realized that my relationship with my husband would undergo significant changes. In this article, I share the emotional struggles, challenges, and insights gained during my journey towards sobriety and recovery.

Introduction

Drinking alcohol had been a significant part of my life for many years. Whether out with friends, during social gatherings, or while enjoying some downtime at home, it was a comforting routine. However, as my life circumstances changed and my family grew, the frequency and intensity of my drinking episodes increased. Eventually, my drinking habits became a source of conflict and strain in my marriage, leading me to question whether it was worth continuing.

How I Quit Drinking

It was a gradual process for me to quit drinking cold turkey. Initially, I planned to go through a formal alcohol addiction treatment program to ensure a successful and sustainable recovery. However, as I began to share my plan with my husband, he was deeply concerned and against it.
